Flat bed truck accident leaves mess on Highway 80

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A flat-bed truck has overturned near the intersection of Highway 80 and Mitchell Young Road in Montgomery County. Authorities are on the scene. The truck, carrying cinder blocks, is on its side in the median. At this time there are no traffic delays.

The driver of the 18-wheeler says he's "A little banged up, but okay."

Accident delaying traffic on Southern Boulevard

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Traffic is down to one slow-moving lane eastbound on the Southern Boulevard.

A truck collided with a tractor-trailer on the boulevard between Norman Bridge Road and Court Street near Harrison Elementary School.

No word on what caused the accident, however injuries appear to be minor. Traffic is down to one lane on that part of the Boulevard until the accident scene can be cleared.

MONTGOMERY—Although the U.S. Energy Administration predicts that a gallon of gasoline will increase to nearly $4 this spring and summer, Montgomery-area commuters can find relief by sharing a ride. 

            An online service called CommuteSmart offers a ride-matching feature that brings hopeful carpoolers together. The online database at www.commutesmart.org uses a person’s home address, work address and work hours to match commuters willing to share their ride.

            CommuteSmart Montgomery is administered by the city of Montgomery’s Transportation Planning Department. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs promotes and encourages ride-sharing options such as CommuteSmart as ways to save money, save energy and reduce carbon emissions.

MONTGOMERY – Weather permitting, the Day Street ramp to I-85 North and the Clay Street ramp to I-65 North will be closed at various intervals Sunday, April 3 at 7 p.m. until 6 a.m., Monday, April 4 for guardrail replacement.

The Montgomery Police Department will assist with traffic control.

 

Moderate delays should be expected.

 

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction to improve Alabama’s roadways.

Shelby Announces $1.3 Million for Montgomery Regional Airport

WASHINGTON, DC Tuesday, March 1, 2011- U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded $1,314,600 to the Montgomery Regional (Dannelly Field) Airport to improve airport drainage and rehabilitate the taxiway.

“A strong transportation infrastructure is critical to attracting new businesses and industries,” said Shelby.  “This important grant will help the Mobile Regional Airport make necessary improvements to its terminal building.  These improvements are essential to ensuring that the airport remains an efficient transportation hub for those traveling to, from, and through South Alabama.”

 

The project will rehabilitate taxiway pavement that has reached the end of its useful life in addition to making improvements to handle stormwater runoff.

ALDOT issues emergency road closure for part of I-85/I-65 Interchange - plan accordingly

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Alabama Department of Transportation has issued an Emergency Road closure for two lanes of the I-85/I-65 exchange.

The center lane initially and then the left lane will be closed to conduct maintenance operations Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 23-24 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Motorists are advised to use caution in this area.
