MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery Area Transit System says it's received eight new Hybrid buses that are powered by diesel fuel and batteries.
The Hybrid’s will reduce the amount of emissions released and also will be more fuel efficient.
The Hybrid buses were received from two grants; the American Recover and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Grant and the Transit Investment for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) Grant.
These buses, specially designed for MATS, will replace buses currently in use. They are bigger on the inside and, according to MATS, the ride is quieter and smoother.
MATS is the only transit system in the state to have Hybrid buses.
The new buses will go in service on Thursday, August 4.
