No. 3 Warhawks fall 6-1 at Division I Privateers

No. 3 Warhawks fall 6-1 at Division I Privateers

Once again playing with only four players, the third-ranked Auburn Montgomery women’s tennis team suffered its second-consecutive setback, losing 6-1 to the University of New Orleans.

AUM is now 9-7 this season, while the Privateers move to 7-10. The Warhawks finished 2013 1-1 against D-I opponents after an earlier 6-3 win over Martin Methodist in March.

The teams split the two doubles matches played, but AUM dropped the point after being forced to forfeit at No. 3 doubles.

Tiffany William and Chanel Cunningham, playing together at No. 1 doubles for the first time this year, collected an 8-4 win over Kristina Martic and Soledad Calderon. The pair are 4-0 as a team in 2013.

William also earned the Warhawks’ only victory in singles, defeating Marta Sans in straight sets for her fourth-straight win overall. She is now 14-2 in singles this season, and improved to 2-0 playing at the top spot.

AUM forfeited at No. 5 and No.

No. 1 AUM rolls past Division I New Orleans; wins fifth straight

Playing its only match of the season against a Division I opponent, the top-ranked Auburn Montgomery men’s tennis teams cruised to a 6-1 victory at the University of New Orleans.

The Warhawks (14-3) won their fifth-straight match overall, while the Privateers are now 9-9 on the year.

The match was played under D-I rules where the three doubles matches account for one point. AUM picked up that point after victories from Tim Hewitt/Bence Toth and Miguel Grifol/Josh Reason. Nicolas Pinones-Haltenhoff and Othmane Lalami also held a comfortable 7-2 advantage at No. 2 doubles when the match was called.

AUM collected wins in five of the six singles matches. Pinones-Haltenhoff and Hewitt each won their fifth consecutive match from the top two positions, while Lalami dropped just one game at the No. 6 spot. Despite dropping a set for just the second time this year, Reason (2-6, 6-1, 6-0) remained perfect at 9-0 in 2013 with a victory at No.

Franks and Farrar throw Warhawks to doubleheader sweep of Southern Poly

Less than 24 hours after allowing 16 runs, the Auburn Montgomery baseball team turned to Eran Franks and Daniel Farrar on the mound and the duo did not disappoint.

The Warhawks (24-15, 11-10 SSAC) received 16 innings of one-run, nine-hit baseball from the tandem to lead the team to a sweep of visiting Southern Poly (26-14, 11-10 SSAC). AUM took the opener by a 3-0 score, while winning game two 4-1.

“We had a couple work horses step up and become thoroughbreds today in Franks and Farrar,” head coach Q.V. Lowe said. “I thought our guys played as well as they have all year. The two pitchers came ready to play and really set the tone for the whole team. We are excited to have won these two games.”

In the opener, Franks tossed a three-hit shutout, striking out three and walking one to improve to 5-4 on the season.

“We knew we had to get back on the grind today,” Franks said.
