Local Artists to Hold Artist Market at Museum of Fine Arts for Holiday Shopping

On Friday, November 18th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts is hosting its 2nd Annual Artist Market. The event will allow participants to shop early for the holidays and mix and mingle with the artists in a unique and sophisticated setting.
 
Artists represented at the Market are featured in the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts’ Museum Store. Potters, painters, a watercolorist, jewelry artists, stained glass artists, textiles, and photography will be featured.
 
Patrons unable to attend the Artist Market can find the work of represented artists represented in the Museum Store. It is stocked with handcrafted works by local and regional artists.

Denied and UnderExposed (DNE) and Helicity Montgomery are hosting the next Denied and UnderExposed art show tonight Friday, November 11, 2011, in downtown Montgomery's Kress building at 38 Dexter Avenue, from 6:00-10:00 p.m.

Montgomery native, William Ray Abner III started DNE, an underground event to allow any and every creative person show their  works for a nominal cost. His group is partnering with Helicity Montgomery, a non-profit that celebrates and showcases the creative spirit of Montgomery, to awaken a building that has sat idle on Dexter Avenue for over 70 years with an evening of cutting edge arts and culture display. The Kress not only witnessed MLK's Jr.

Artists represented at the Market are featured in the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts’ Museum Store. Potters, painters, a watercolorist, jewelry artists, stained glass artists, textiles, and photography will be featured.
 
If unable to attend the Artist Market, patrons can find the work of represented artists represented in the Museum Store. It is stocked with handcrafted works by local and regional artists. Work includes paintings, drawings, pottery, glass, textiles, woodcarvings, and more.  The Store also has a nice selection of art books and other MMFA publications, along with children’s books and toys.

On Friday, October 28th, the Montgomery Clean City Commission is teaming up with AARP Alabama, MAX Credit Union and Gilmore Services to offer on-site document shredding from 7:00 a.m.

Winn Dixie completes voluntary recall on in-store bakery items

On Friday, August 5, 2011, Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., issued a voluntary recall on potentially mislabeled items from its in-store bakeries. Following this announcement, Department of Agriculture & Industry food safety inspectors began conducting recall effectiveness checks in Winn-Dixie stores throughout Alabama.

The items listed below are being recalled because the products may be mislabeled:

  • “Winn-Dixie Lemon Bar” cakes
  • “Winn-Dixie Chocolate Cherry Bar” cakes
  • “Winn-Dixie Bakery Iced Cinnamon Rolls - 6 Pack”

The mislabeled products may contain undeclared egg and/or wheat. Individuals with an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. Individuals sensitive to wheat protein can suffer a moderate-acute allergic reaction.
