Eastdale Mall introduces parental escort policy

Eastdale Mall introduces parental escort policy

Eastdale Mall today announced plans to implement a Parental Escort Policy (PEP) designed to provide all of its shoppers and retailers with a comfortable, pleasant shopping experience. The new policy—which will be enforced beginning Friday, April 26, 2013—requires all mall visitors 17 years of age and younger to be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian who is 21 years of age or older on Friday and Saturday nights after 6 p.m.

The Parental Escort Policy is intended to curtail the rising number of unsupervised youth gathering at Eastdale Mall and related disturbances occurring there on Friday and Saturday nights.

New tornado app brings Red Cross safety information to mobile devices

The American Red Cross has launched its official Tornado App. The app puts lifesaving information right in the hands of people who live in, visit, or have loved ones in tornado-prone areas.

This free app—available in English or Spanish—gives iPhone, iPad and Android smart phone and tablet users instant access to local and real-time information, so they know what to do before, during and after a tornado. The app includes a high-pitched siren and “tornado warning!” alert that signals people when a NOAA tornado warning has been issued in their area – even if the app is closed. An “all clear!” alert lets users know when a tornado warning has expired or has been cancelled.

“Tornadoes often happen in the overnight hours when people are sleeping,” said Billy Baxter, Executive Officer for the Alabama Region.

IRS intensifies national crackdown on ID theft in effort to protect taxpayers & prevent fraud

Continuing a year-long enforcement push against refund fraud and identity theft, the Internal Revenue Service today announced the results of a massive national sweep in recent weeks targeting identity theft suspects in 32 states and Puerto Rico, which involved 215 cities and surrounding areas.

The coast-to-coast effort against 389 identity theft suspects led to 734 enforcement actions in January, including indictments, informations, complaints and arrests. The effort comes on top of a growing identity theft effort that led to 2,400 other enforcement actions against identity thieves during fiscal year 2012.

The January crackdown, a joint effort with the Department of Justice and local U.S. Attorneys offices, unfolded as the IRS opened the 2013 tax season. IRS Criminal Investigation expanded its efforts during January, pushing the total number of identity theft investigations to more than 1,460 since the start of the federal 2012 fiscal year on Oct.
