Montgomery Chorale wins KFC grant for struggling choirs - will serenade local restaurant

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Could the "C" in KFC soon stand for Choir instead of Chicken? Probably not...but KFC is doing a large part to help keep music alive. KFC's 10 Buck Sunday Bucket launch awarded 11 struggling choirs across the United States a $1,000 grant, combining the beloved weekend traditions of choir singing and family supper. A Montgomery Group, The Montgomery Chorale, was one of the lucky recipients.

Earlier this year, the chain issued an open letter to choral organizations across the country, asking them to describe how they could make beautiful music in a KFC near them. More than 140 choirs submitted nominations, and 11 choirs have been awarded $1,000 and the opportunity to sing at a local KFC.

Montgomery Chorale responded to the call, submitting a nomination that revealed a $1,000 grant would go a long way to help fund music and scholarships for children and adults.

Uncle Mick's - Authentic Cajun food right here in Central Alabama -- Southernbite.com

As a native Prattvillian, I think it's important to point out that this "Preferred Community" hasn't always been the booming city it has become in the past several years.  I remember when there was nothing out east but cotton fields and a Christmas tree farm.  We've been incredibly limited with our dining options.  When I was kid going out to eat was heading to the Hot Bar at Wendy's - for those of you can remember that.  We're fortunate now though that many new spots have opened expanding the dining possibilities.

Davis Cafe near downtown Montgomery is a hidden gem -- Southernbite.com

If you’re looking for southern soul food in Montgomery, there’s no need to go anywhere but The Davis Cafe.  Just outside of downtown Montgomery at 518 North Decatur Street, it’s not exactly where you’d look to find good food.  And from the looks of the outside of the place, you might even be a little reluctant, but trust me.  What waits on the inside is nothing short of pure southern delicacy.
