U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) will join the residents of Montgomery County for a “Meet & Greet” breakfast on Monday, February 4, 2013, at 7:30 am Central Time.  The meeting, which is open to the public, will take place at the RSA Activity Center located at 201 Dexter Avenue, Montgomery, Alabama.

This will be Senator Shelby’s 1,749th county visit since his election to the U.S.

"Politics controls every aspect of our lives," said Sean Strickler, AREA's vice president for public affairs, "and it is imperative that every citizen stay current on what is going on in the Legislature and contact their legislator when needed.

Tens of millions saved with Bentley's 'Road to a Billion Dollars in Savings' program

Governor Robert Bentley on Thursday provided an end-of-the-year update on the Road to a Billion Dollars in Savings, the state’s long-term effort to identify greater efficiencies and cost savings in government.

More than $750 million in current and projected annual savings have now been identified, up from $674 million in savings that had been identified when the plan was first announced in July.  The additional savings come through measures such as bond refinancings, contract renegotiations and workforce right-sizing.

“I am committed to an efficient state government, and we’re making great progress in saving taxpayers a billion dollars a year,” Governor Bentley said.  “The people of Alabama deserve a government that makes wise use of taxpayer dollars, and that’s what we’re giving them.  I am confident we will reach our goal of identifying a billion dollars in average annual savings by the end of this term.”

Rep. Rogers' Montgomery office relocating

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -  U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers’ Montgomery District Office is in the process of relocating due to new congressional district lines for Alabama’s Third District. 

The current location will close on December 21, 2012.

In the interim, for assistance in the Montgomery area, citizens needing to contact Rep. Rogers' office can call 334-277-4210 or visit www.mike-rogers.house.gov/contact-mike.

The Anniston and Opelika District offices both remain open.

Montgomery Co. Commission sworn in

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Members of the Montgomery County Commission were officially sworn in to their offices Wednesday.

Newly-elected commissioner Dan Harris was first to be sworn in. He was also chosen to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Board.

The four other commissioners took their oaths afterward. They were all re-elected to their positions, including Elton Dean, who was also re-elected as Chairman.

Dean said he was looking forward to a more aggressive commission that will work more with the city and state in an effort to bring more growth, jobs and better public education to the area.

With Harris' election, the Montgomery County Commission is now controlled by Democrats.
