Montgomery County Humane Society Pet-of-the-Week

Hello, I am Leeann. I am so glad to be here at the shelter. You see, I was running down a busy road and someone very nice stopped and picked me up. They knew I was too young to be out alone beside a busy road. Anyway here I am with no home. They tell me that I am a shepherd mix and I am still a puppy. They gave me all of my shots, they tested me for heartworms, they gave me a microchip, and they had me spayed. I am full of energy and like all puppies I love to chew. I can be very silly and very loving all at the same time! I like to play and I like to give puppy kisses. If you would like an active puppy to grow up with the family, then please come and visit with me. If you treat me with kindness, gentleness and lots of love I will grow to be a trusted and loyal friend.

McMillan advises horse owners to vaccinate for EEE and West Nile Virus

Agriculture & Industries Commissioner John McMillan announced that since June, several positive cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) have been found in Alabama in birds and horses.

“We are entering into the time of year that makes us extremely vulnerable to the spread of mosquito-borne viruses and we need to protect our livestock and ourselves” stated McMillan. “I want to encourage horse owners to vaccinate their horses for both EEE and West Nile Virus as soon as possible.”

Hidy! My name is Jack! I am a husky/Jack Russell mix. Quite a combination, don't you think? I am about eighteen months old, so I am a young adult. There is one feature that you have probably noticed about me. It is my outstanding, awesome, amazing ears! They look like satellite dishes on top of my head when they stand up! Whoa, baby! I can hear things all the way across the play yard! I guess you are wondering why I am here at the shelter looking for a new home. Well it's kinda sad. You see my owner died and no one else in the family could take me. So I am starting over and hoping to find someone that will be interested in adopting me. I have all of my vaccinations, I am heartworm negative, I have a microchip, and I have already been neutered. Why don't you come out and visit with me. I know we could have lots of fun. I have been told that I have impeccable manners and I am extremely smart.

Hidy! I am Callie! I am a Manchester terrier mix and I am almost a year old. I had an owner, but he brought me to the shelter because he didn't have time to train me in good manners. I am a little upset about this situation. I am an extremely bright dog that is willing to learn if someone will just teach me. I was checking my iPad the other day and I Googled Manchester terriers. Some of the words used to describe us are intelligent, active, high spirited, agile, and sporty! Seriously, who could ask for more? Since I have been here I have gotten all of my vaccinations, I was checked for heartworms, I got a microchip, and I was spayed. Are you ready for a super intelligent pack leader to join your household? Well here I am! You better come get me quick!

Hello, my name is Kalie. I don't know if you can tell by my picture, but I recently had babies. I am still trying to get that baby weight off. I know with a good diet and lots of exercise in my new home, I will be my old self soon! I am a young adult terrier mix. Me and some of my friends were brought here by our owner because he had too many animals. The nice folks here at the shelter have taken real good care of us. They made sure we had all of our vaccinations, that we were heartworm negative, that we had a microchip, and that we were spayed. I am so looking forward to finding a new home. I hope lots of people will come and visit with me. I am very laid back and I don't get excited about many things. If you were looking for a calm, quiet dog then you have found her! Come and get me now

Hello! I am Bruce. Some of the people here at the shelter tell me that I am one cute puppy! I have a pretty golden coat with a streak of white that runs down my nose and on my chest. I was so lucky. I was wandering down a street all by myself, when a Good Samaritan stopped to help me. I am really glad he did, because I was getting really nervous and confused. We waited and waited for my family to find me at the shelter, but no one came looking for me. So now I am up for adoption. I have all of my shots for my age, I am heartworm negative, I have a microchip, and I have already been neutered. By chance were you looking for a young puppy to grow up with the kids? Well I could be that puppy! I know you won't believe this, but I know how to play ball! Yes I do. A tennis ball is my favorite toy! Just throw it and I will go after it and bring it back to you! Why don't you come and visit me at the shelter? You would see how cute, sweet, wonderful, smart, talentedI could go on and on!
