Montgomery County Humane Society Pet-of-the-Week

Montgomery County Humane Society Pet-of-the-Week

Hi. My name is Mark. I am a Border collie mix and I am just seven months old. Gee, I don’t know exactly how it happened, but I ended up in someone's yard that I didn’t know. Well they were so kind. They looked for my owners, but could not find them. After a day or two they brought me to the shelter. We were all hoping that my owners would come to the shelter to find me. Well no such luck for me. Now I need a new home. Since I have been here, I have gotten all of my vaccinations, I was tested for heartworms, I got a microchip, and I was neutered. I am a little bit shy. If you will give me lots of love and attention I will be your best friend forever!!! Please come and visit with me at the shelter.

Hi, I am Dallas. I am a retriever/lab mix. I am about a year old. Say, did you notice my blond coat? I think it looks kind of nice, don't you? My face is very unusual. I have darker brown rings around my eyes that make me look like a raccoon. Believe me I am not related to a raccoon! Some nice people found me lost in their neighborhood. They brought me to the shelter so I would be safe while I waited for my family. Well no one came to claim me, so I am in the market for a new home. Since I have been at this great facility I have gotten all of my vaccinations, I was tested for heartworms, I got a microchip, and I was neutered. I am a great leash walker and I love to explore new places. I think I would be a great companion for an eight or nine year old boy. We could have some great adventures together in the back yard! When you come to meet me you will probably notice that I am a little bit shy. It takes me a few minutes to warm up to people I haven't met before.

Hey! I am Terrence! I am a four month old terrier mix. I am mostly white with brown ears and a brown patch over one eye! Pretty cute, huh! My owner brought me to the shelter because he just didn't have time for a young dog like me. You know puppies do take lots of time to train in nice manners. While I have been waiting for a new owner, I have gotten all of my shots for my age. I was given a microchip. Also I was neutered. I will grow just a little bit more, but I should be a medium size dog when I am full grown. I am so hoping that you will see my picture and want to come and visit with me. I am in the puppy room right now, but I hope to be in my new forever home very soon!

Hello, I am Vellie. Can you see in my picture that I am a very serious dog. I am very polite and well mannered. You are probably wondering why I am at the shelter. Well my owner had some health issues and he could no longer care for me. So I am now in the market for a new home. I am up to date with all of my vaccinations. I was tested for heartworms and I was negative. I got a microchip. I am also spayed. I am about four years old, so I am a settled dog that doesn't need to be entertained. I can already sit on command and I can give you a high five for a treat! I like to walk on a leash and I do love attention, but I am not a demanding dog. I guess you could consider me a quiet companion. How about giving me a try? I think if you got to know me you would love me.

Humane Society says budget is back on track

Humane Society says budget is back on track

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery County Humane Society says after help from the community and the county, they're now back on track.

That's a major improvement from November when the shelter said it was broke - with approximately $50,000 in debt.

Directors were forced to go to the Montgomery County Commission to ask for help at the end of last year. The County Commission was able to increase the Humane Society's Budget.

With the county's help and with more than $20,000 raised in December with the shelter's Christmas fundraisers, the shelter says it's back on track.

Officials say now they're preparing for the summer months when animal intake is typically higher. And, the shelter hopes to see the new city dog park at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival completed in March with a grand opening party in April.
