AUM's Clarke and Heller earn Captial One Academic All-American honors | People
Auburn Montgomery sophomore goalkeeper Holly Clarke and sophomore defender Maren Heller have both been named to the Capital One Academic All-American Second-Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Clarke and Heller were previously named to the Capital One Academic All-District First-Team and the Southern States Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. The pair also garnered all-conference second-team honors for their performance on the pitch.
A Norwich, England, native, Clarke has a 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in exercise science. She started all 19 games in goal for the Warhawks, finishing 2012 with an 11-6-2 record and a 0.94 goals-against average. She had three shutouts, and was part of an additional five team shutouts.
Heller, originally from Leonberg, Germany, also has a perfect 4.0 GPA as an international business major. She started 15 games for AUM and registered three goals and three assists. Heller scored two goals in a victory over Truett-McConnell on Sept. 21, and had a goal and two assists versus Freed-Hardeman on Sept. 15.
Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 16,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
