MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- Montgomery Public Schools has created a new position and will now start the process to hire a chief academic officer.
Creating the position was the only thing on the agenda at the school board meeting Thursday.
The new position is part of the state's strategic plan for Montgomery Public Schools.
The chief academic officer will take charge of executing the 30-60-90-day strategic plans that are part of the state board of education's interposition with MPS.
Interim Superintendent Margaret Allen says she will welcome the help. "It will
allow me to slow down just a little bit, and get my wits about the many layers
of work that are required here at Montgomery Public Schools," Allen said.
The new position will pay between $105,000 and $127,000 per year. There is no time table on when the position will be filled.
MPS has had a chief academic officer before, but it did away with the position in 2010.
