Former Rose Supper Club in Montgomery to re-open with new name, owners | News
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- The old Rose Supper Club in Montgomery will soon re-open, but this time under a new name and new ownership.
The Montgomery City Council Tuesday night approved plans for the business which will now be called the Centennial Hill Bar and Grill.
The business is now licensed as a restaurant meaning it cannot simply be a nightclub. Under the license, the business must have receipts that show that at least 60 percent of its sales are from food purchases.
Even though the business was approved a license, Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange says he still has some concerns. He says the business plan and commitment to be a restaurant were not very strong, in his opinion.
"We'll do audits, we do undercover operations to make sure that we don't get into the same situation that we've had over and over and over at that particular location," Mayor Strange said adding, "I hope it is very successful. I hope it is a very nice bar and grille. That particular area could use that."
The City of Montgomery has gone after and shut down several establishments in recent months that had restaurant business licenses but were operating as nightclubs.
