Cleanups in Montgomery to Celebrate MLK Day | Environment

Montgomery, Alabama, January 17, 2013 - Montgomery Clean City Commission will be working with local groups to clean up several area neighborhoods during the MLK holiday weekend. More than 100 volunteers have registered to pick up litter in the Normandale area on Saturday. Groups involved in this big cleanup are from Bridge Builders, AUM soccer team, Trenholm Tech Upward Bound and Eve’s Circle. Another large cleanup this Saturday will be held in the Nixon Times community. More than 100 youth volunteers will begin at 9am at the Cleveland Avenue Y and cover a 10 block area. A youth group from Christian Life Church is planning to pick up litter in the Gunter Industrial Park on Saturday. Other cleanups will be held at the Family Sunshine Center, South Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center, Montgomery Area Nontraditional Equestrians (MANE), Chisholm area and the Salvation Army warehouse. There will also be a beautification project at One Place Family Justice Center, where a mural will be painted on the center’s walls.
