Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts kicks off  First-Year Junior Patron Program


Montgomery, AL — The Junior Executive Board of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts will  host a kick-off party for  Mixed Media, the junior patron sub-sector of the Museum’s membership base,  on Thursday, February 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. The party will serve as a great opportunity to meet and socialize with young professionals who share a passion for the arts.

At the event, local art collector Camille Elebash-Hill will discuss the keys to beginning an art collection and Ashley Freeman Gilbreath, owner of Ashley Gilbreath Interior Design and PARISH, will detail the best ways to place art in a home.

Mixed Media is the Museum’s newest affiliate membership program whose members enjoy complimentary admission to quarterly after-hour events as well as appetizers and a drink ticket. Southern Circuit returns to the Capri on February 21st

The Capri Theatre presents "Trust: Second Acts in Young Lives" with Director Nancy Kelly as part of the South Arts Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers on Thursday, February 21 at 7:30. Following a screening of her feature film, "Trust: Second Acts in Young Lives" Kelly and the audience will engage in a discussion about the film and her work as a filmmaker. Joining Kelly will be Cheryl L Hardley , Coordinator of the Sexual Assault Response Team and the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (STAR/SANE) for STAR, a program of Lighthouse Counseling Center.

The Southern Circuit  Tour of Independent Filmmakers is presented with support from the Montgomery County Commission and the Alabama State Council on the Arts. Accommodations for the filmmakers are provided by The Lattice Inn.

The 2012-2013 Southern Circuit is a program of South Arts.

The New Shanghai Circus to perform at the Davis Theatre

The New Shanghai Circus, an internationally recognized troupe of Chinese acrobats, aerialists and athletes, will bring their stage spectacular to Montgomery for one night only during a performance at Troy University’s Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m.

Featuring a beautifully orchestrated presentation of Chinese circus arts, the New Shanghai Circus combines entertaining acrobatics with show-stopping choreography, spectacular costumes and ancient and contemporary theatrical techniques to present a show of breathtaking skill and spellbinding beauty.

The Davis Theatre is located in downtown Montgomery at 251 Montgomery Street. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m.

So Percussion to perform at ClefWorks' 2013 festival

So Percussion is coming to Montgomery for Clefworks' 2013 Festival.

From February 5th through 7th, So will be in town performing for school children throughout the city and they will be conducting a master class for aspriring percussionists at Alabama State University.

On the weekend of February 8 and 9, So will perform two concerts at the newly renovated City Auditorium. The two concerts planned for each night at 7:30 pm are totally different.

So Percussion is coming to Montgomery for ClefWorks’ 2013 Festival!

On February 5, 6, and 7 they will be performing for school kids throughout the city and conducting a Master Class at Alabama State University for aspiring percussionists.

On the weekend of February 8 and 9, So will perform two concerts at the newly renovated City Auditorium. The two concerts planned for each night at 7:30 pm are totally different. Called “mesmerizing” by the NY Times, a December 2012 So Percussion performance prompted the Washington Post to note that the group was “a tough act to follow.” Montgomery’s Saturday night concert will have something that the concert in our nation’s capital didn’t have – an extra percussion group performing with So.

Robert Gibson to perform guitar recital at Huntingdon

The Huntingdon College music program will offer a special guest recital performance by classical guitarist Dr. Robert Gibson, Thursday, January 31, at 7:30 p.m. in Smith Music Building's Delchamps Recital Hall.  The concert is free and open to the public and will feature works by Augustin Barrios, F. Moreno Torroba, Joaquin Rodrigo, and Mauro Giuliani.

Gibson, a dedicated concert artist, teacher, and advocate of new music, has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in venues around the United States, Mexico, and Italy.  He has introduced world premieres of music written by Donald Grantham, James Norman, Traci Mendel, and Sir Anthony Hopkins.  Gibson has also performed on electric guitar in nearly every musical genre.  He has earned prizes in several competitions, including the Appalachian Guitar Festival, the U.T.S.A. Concerto Competition, the Etude Music Club Competition, and the M.T.N.A.
